A very happy Ganesh Chaturthi to all of you. Celebrations are going on everywhere and people are welcoming Lord Ganesh to their homes and serving him with feast. The feast for Lord Ganesh never completes without "Modak". Traditionally Modak is made up of rice flour with coconut and jaggery filling inside. You can refer to my "Ukdiche Modak recipe" in the recipe list. People make modak by many ways. Some deep fry them. Few make modaks out of khoya and powdered sugar, dryfruits, etc. which we normally see in sweet shop for selling.

Today I have bought an innovative version of modak. I have given a modern twist to the traditional steamed modak. When you will see it you will think its a normal steamed modak but when you take the first bite of it, you will gulp on the entire modak at one go. Yes, you are sure going to love these modaks as I am going to fill it with some magic. I am using chocolate filling in it which really blends well with coconut. So now we shall begin for the yummy adventure ;-)

Preparation Time : 20 Mins

Cooking Time : 15-20 mins

Serves : 4

Ingredients:

Rice Flour - 2 cups

Freshly grated coconut - 1 cup

Dark compound chocolate - 1/4 cup

Milk compound chocolate - 1/4 cup

Oil - 1 tspn

Salt - for taste

Method:

  1. Dry roast the coconut for 2-3 minutes. Keep aside.

  2. Melt both the chocolates in double boiler or microwave.

  3. Add coconut to the melted chocolate and mix well.

  4. In another pan heat 1 1/2 cups of water.

  5. Add salt and a teaspoon of oil to it.

  6. When the water starts boiling, add rice flour to it. Cover and cook for 2 mins.

  7. Switch off the flame and let it rest for 5-10 mins.

  8. Knead the dough well and use water if required.

  9. Roll out small puris from the dough or you can also make a dent in middle and add filling to it.

  10. Give the shape of modak. (For ref. pls see the video below)

  11. Keep steamer for heating.

  12. Grease the steamer plate with little oil and place modaks on it.

  13. Steam for 15 - 20 minutes.

  14. Remove and serve.

NOTE:

While taking water for rice flour, check the flour first. If it is coarse, take the equal quantity of water as the flour. If the flour is fine then check for the recipe measurements.

I hope you all enjoy this recipe. Do share with your friends. Byeee......

COOKING TIPS

#1

While setting your curds one night before, add stem of one green chilly to it and you will get thick curds.

#2

While making dough for puri, just add little rava or semolina to it. You will have crispier puris.

#3

Use heavy bottomed vessel to make rava upma, halwa, kheer, etc to prevent burning.
